“Imagine seeing the world this way”
Imagine… seeing only muted colours… having difficulty reading… being unable to clearly see the expression on a loved one’s face.
This is the reality for people who have cataracts.
Cataracts commonly develop after age 60 and, with 18% of our population over 65, the wait list for surgery continues to grow. We need to take additional steps now to reduce wait times across the Grey Bruce region.
And, it is my pleasure to share this exciting news!
The new Cataract Surgery Suite at the Meaford Hospital is scheduled to open in 2022. The new Suite, along with the existing cataract surgeries offered in Owen Sound, will effectively reduce wait times across the region.
The new Suite will include state-of-the-art technology – a microscope with software that will enable physicians to replace the lens with one that corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism – allowing the patient to have their cataract removed and then be able to go glasses-free after the procedure as their vision will be corrected with the new lens.
We urgently need your help. Community support is the reason the Meaford Hospital is able to provide high quality care to thousands of patients every year. We need to raise $100,000 toward this cutting-edge technology to be used in cataract surgery and lens replacement – and we hope you will consider a gift today.
The Cataract Surgery Suite at the Meaford Hospital will be providing ophthalmology procedures, performed by highly skilled ophthalmologists, using state-of-the-art equipment, and supported by highly qualified personnel.
The government provides little funding for medical equipment.
As a result, we must rely on the generosity of our community to meet the needs of our hospitals.
Please support our vision to deliver the very best eye care to everyone in our community.
With my sincere gratitude,
Director of Surgery and Women & Children
