We need your support to purchase updated emergency room equipment

Brightshores Meaford provides vital care to residents in Meaford and surrounding communities.
But many don’t know that our hospital is part of the Brightshores Health System, a network of six hospitals in the Grey Bruce region covering an area of over 2900 square kilometers.

What does this mean for you?
It means we’ve got you covered. No matter where you live in our area, no matter what your medical concern is, we can make sure you get the healthcare services you need when you need them. Here are the stories of two grateful patients who received life-saving care from Meaford Hospital’s emergency room professionals.

Q

My name is Bette Sweatman and I owe my life to the emergency care I received at Meaford Hospital.
I am a 78-year-old resident of this wonderful community, and I’ve been involved in many worthwhile projects over the years, including helping to design and establish the Meaford Hospital Gardens.
In December 2023, I suffered a major health setback –a brain bleed and seizures. I was rushed to Meaford Hospital where I suffered another seizure in the Emergency Department. In short order, they assessed my condition and transferred me to Brightshores Owen Sound for further care.
I found great comfort in the expertise of the Stroke Recovery Care Team at the Owen Sound hospital. They got me back on my feet and provided me with the care I needed to get on with my life and return to gardening.
However, without the quick assessment and care at Meaford Hospital, I wouldn’t be alive today. I guess you could say I’ve been lucky all my life, and that was borne out by my good fortune to come across the exceptional healthcare professionals at both hospitals when my health was threatened.
My recovery wasn’t easy, but my love of nature and gardens has given me a further opportunity to give back to Meaford Hospital. I continue to tend to its beautiful gardens as a way of keeping my mind and body active, I believe that when you are in touch with the earth, you are in touch with your soul – a wise lesson I learned from my father.
I am so grateful for the life-saving care I received in the Emergency Department at Meaford Hospital, and I hope you feel inspired to support the hospital through a donation that will help fund the purchase of much-needed equipment that saves lives.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Bette Sweatman

Q
My name is John White and I am a retiree in the Town of Blue Mountains. Over the years, three generations of my family have been well-served by the caring and professional staff at the Meaford Hospital.
Last July, I experienced a medical crisis that almost ended my life. Following a day of golfing, swimming and biking, I woke up in bed in the middle of the night with excruciating back pain. At 3 a.m., I drove myself to Meaford Hospital where emergency staff initially thought I had kidney stones.
That’s when the amazing emergency doctors and nurses at Brightshores Meaford stepped up and literally
saved my life, not once, but twice.
Dr. Victoria Dawson and two nurses performed surgical procedures on me in the emergency room. Had it not been for
the ingenuity and heroic efforts of the ER team, I would not have survived the night.
The overall care I received until I was stable enough to be transferred to the Critical Care Unit, was exceptional. I am so
grateful to Dr. Dawson, Dr. Nathalie Sauriol, Dr. Naomi Klages, Dr. Marius Van Der Merwe, and the entire emergency nursing team for their life-saving care under extraordinary circumstances.
I am hoping my story inspires you to support Meaford Hospital in its campaign to purchase updated emergency room equipment. Your donation will help ensure that our amazing local emergency team has state-of-the-art
medical tools they need to provide the best care possible.

Warmest regards,
John White
