Ruby and Elmer Ferguson
Celebrating Lifetimes of Service
Ruby and Elmer were married for 65 years, with most of those spent living in Meaford. Ruby worked as a school secretary, first at Meaford District High School and later at St. Vincent Elementary.
She also volunteered for the Meaford Hospital Auxiliary, helping with patient reception, Nevada ticket sales, and at the Midas Mart thrift store. After 32 years of volunteer service, Ruby was named a lifetime Auxiliary member.
Elmer was a Corporal with the OPP, serving for 20 years between the Meaford and Sebringville detachments. He volunteered on the Meaford Town Council and Grey County Council for many years, as well as on the Hospital Auxiliary. After retiring from the OPP, he enjoyed a variety of work interests including real estate and being a school bus driver.
Ruby and Elmer loved to travel and visited many countries over the years, but their hearts were always here in Meaford. Elmer passed away in 2011 when he was 91, while Ruby passed in 2020 at age 96. Ruby’s will included gifts for both the Meaford and Owen Sound hospital foundations, specifically for purchasing medical equipment and improving hospital facilities.
“Mrs. Ferguson’s thoughtfulness helped put great tools into the hands of our nurses, physicians, and technical staff,” says Bernadette Mervyn, Site Manager at Brightshores Meaford Hospital. “This means better care, close to home for our patients for years to come. What a great legacy to leave her community!”
After lifetimes of involvement, service, and support. Ruby and Elmer Ferguson have left our communities better, healthier places to live.
Thank you, Ruby and Elmer!
